Writing Sexy Aliens: Body Parts

Riddle me this? Why do almost all humanoid species and paranormal supernaturals have pretty much the sexual equipment that works in the same way?  We may stretch the ears, color the hair or blood, give them two hearts, but the sexual apparatus is usually non-negotiable.  Anatomy never seems to impede the Alien non-Alien tryst.

Admittedly, standard equipment makes it easier to get it on with an Alien dude or dudette, but we’re more imaginative than that? Aren’t we?

Seems to me, playing with alien bodies can really spice up a paranormal or futuristic romance.

In Laurell K. Hamilton’s Merry Gentry Series, Sholto, King of the Slaugh, is a hybrid, whose few extra bits can stimulate multiple parts on a woman. You have the physical pleasure of a ménage but the emotional depth of a single partner. That’s the kind of creativity I’m talking about.

Lora Leigh’s Breed series adds a few bits and bobs to the males when they mate, leading to enhanced pleasure for both partners.   Push that envelope.

In my newest release, Race to Redemption (Green Rising, Book # 1), one of the alien species I introduce, the Magarans, are gender neutral. When sexually stimulated, their bodies shift to male or female. So all Magarans are both and neither gender.  While I’m not pushing any boundaries on body parts per se, I wanted to explore the idea that we all have a little female and male inside us.  My thinking around this was simple.  How do we explore the depth of who we are, if don’t push at our barriers, including anatomical ones?

Any cool body parts out there to add to this list?

Here’s a little more about Race to Redemption.

Blurb

A woman who lost everything.

Intergalactic storm racing champion Elaina Carteret had it all – fame, wealth, men – until a horrific accident took it away. To get it back, she agrees to pose as Lainie Carter, medical transport pilot and corporate spy. Her risk-taking attitude infuriates Dr. Erik Johansen, who runs the outpost with an iron hand, a permanent scowl and the tightest bod on the planet.

A man desperate for redemption.

Unable to forgive himself for a past tragedy, Erik works himself into an early grave. He has no patience for the insubordinate Lainie Carter, who can’t take an order, disrupts routine and flames his body to ash.

A planet at risk.

When the outpost is attached, they’re thrown together in a race across the desert to stop a deadly biogenetic weapon As a fragile trust blossoms between two damaged hearts, their pasts resurface and threaten their growing bond.

Be warned:  anal sex, bondage, menage sex, gender neutral characters.

About Shari Elder

Hello, I’m Shari. By day, I crawl out of bed, mainline coffee, walk the dog, get my kid off to school, hop on the metro, and save cities within the four walls of my office. Usually by email.

At night, the other Shari emerges.  I take off the suit, curl up on the couch and let my imagination play, with words and images until stories take shape (while periodically checking on my teen-ager, hiding out in the bedroom and plotting world domination).  As my alter ego, I save cities in a cape and spangled tights, wander space and time on a surfboard, fly over the Himalayas on feathered wings, make six-toed footprints in indigo talc snow on the sixth planet in the Andromeda galaxy or eavesdrop on Olympian gods while pretending to whip up a bowl of ambrosia.

In all these wondrous worlds, romance and passion blossom. I can’t resist a happy ending. And I am particularly prone to writing happy endings for those who have given up on ever getting one. That gives me immense satisfaction.

Join me on my journey. The best ideas emerge from team work.

Great post, Shari. I’ve heard about multiple-appendaged aliens before although I’ve never read any books with those anatomical extras. Not quite sure how that would work without thinking the guy is an octopus and that isn’t sexy to me. Just icky. LOL
But I can certainly live with gender-neutral or gender-multiple humanoids. The idea of morphing to one or the other to give or receive the best pleasure is certainly sexy to me. 😀

The female (no idea about male parts) witches in Kim Harrison’s hollows series are slightly different. They have extra bits inside that hold on a little tighter… heh.

Until things are over and it’s been awhile for her and she can’t quite relax to let the poor guy go. (Best awkward sex scene ever, imo.)

Oops. That puts getting attached after sex in a whole new light. LOL. I guess it makes a change from the woman being sore because he’s too big. 😉

I’m a little late to the party, but I have to contribute. I confess I haven’t read too many science fiction romances to say much, but I happen to be a big fan of Gena Showalter and she introduces a variety of aliens in her Alien Huntress series, including one male alien who has 2 such pleasuring parts in the perfect place for double-penetration. (That’s a lot of P’s) 😐

Having asexual aliens is ingenious, Shari, I like that idea. I will definitely have to start adding more sci-fi romance to my TBR!

Ugh, let me correct myself – my mind was in 7th grade science class dissecting frogs LOL – not asexual aliens, but more like bi-directional? Either way, very interesting! 🙂

Thanks. The really hard thing about them for writing is what pronoun to use!

That is a lot of P’s. 😉 Aliens with 2 pen***s. Well, as long as they are humanoid shaped then someone is a very lucky girl. 😃

I do believe they were, unfortunately it was a ‘witnessed’ encounter by the MC, rather than something she experienced herself so it would be interesting to read from the main POV! 😀
