Hello readers. Today we’re excited to have Meryt from Eternal Traces by Shonda Brock in the Hot Seat for #ColorofLove2017 celebration.
You’re welcome to our blog, Meryt. Thank you for hanging out with us today. We look forward to delving into your mind and finding out more about you. So let’s get started.
Meryt Brownstone is her birth name. When her mother named her she thought it would be a perfect compliment to her daughter’s beautiful brown skin. She had high dreams for the curly headed, sweet girl child, but unfortunately life already had a plan for Meryt. Sweet could only be used if you are into a hot-tempered, poor communicator, extremely driven woman who is only open to showing emotions when death is near and even then she prefers the company of a bottle.
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
A restful night of sleep, and a long run to get the blood flowing followed by a good stiff drink with no worries for the future.
What is your current state of mind?
Confusion. I live by this mantra, “What you put out into the universe is what comes back at you.” That’s what I really believe; yet I’m starting to realize no matter how hard I set things straight, it always ends the same. Broken, as if I never tried; as if I never intended it to be right. Do you know what I mean?
What is your most treasured possession?
Without a second thought, it’s my memories. I possess them solely.
What or who is the greatest love of your life?
He goes by many names, yet I cannot call him by any.
What is your greatest fear?
I’m reminded of a song by Billie Holiday, “Crazy He Calls Me.” It’s been redone by several amazing voices, but its haunting message still – remains the insane truth. The song describes my lover, “Like the wind that shakes the bough, he moves me with a smile. The difficult I’ll do right now, the impossible will take a little while…..”
My greatest fear is living without him. It’s like asking me to do what is beyond impossible.
What is the quality you most like in a man/woman?
Loyalty. There’s nothing better. Its reliable and its always in fashion. The word means the same today as it did when it was first spoken.
What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Everything in my soul and body cannot stand a Coward. It’s a trait that you can’t wash off, nor can it be forgiven or forgotten. It’s ok to be afraid, and even harder to admit aloud. But being a coward means there’s nothing about you that can be trusted.
On what occasions do you lie?
When is there an occasion a lie is not necessary? No one wants to hear the truth, that may be why, so many cowards live to tell another lie. When’s the last time you asked, “How are you?” and you really meant it? Do you really care to know the truth? And better yet, when is the last time you answered that same question truthfully? On What occasions do I lie? Almost daily.
Which is your favorite word or phrase?
Not day goes by without this phrase, “One, two, three Breathe…” How else would do you start to do the impossible? With a simple breath.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Break the cycle. They say, “if you were beaten by your father, then you’ll beat as a parent. If you saw your mother or father abused, then you’ll grow up to be an abuser or even worse, attract an abuser.” I was born to kill, I was trained to kill and I have killed. So how do I stop the cycle?
If you live by the sword, so shall you die by the sword. That is what waits for me, the sword. Yet, the honest truth is, no one makes it out of life alive.
Thank you to Shonda for obliging us. Find out more about Meryt in Eternal Traces. Here are the details.
Talented cardiologist Meryt Brownstone doesn’t have the luxury of getting involved with people. When she’s not in the lab pursuing her experimental work with synthetic blood, she’s involved with a man: first name Uncle, last name Sam. As an ex-military officer who still works as an undercover mercenary for the U.S. government, this means personal drama is something Meryt can do without, and living under the radar is de rigueur.
But the solitude of her carefully orchestrated life is broken when Dr. Rene Daniels mysteriously appears. Drawn to her blood research, he joins her in the laboratory. Meryt finds herself attracted against her better judgment and is mesmerized by his smart-aleck charm and his piercing blue eyes.
Meryt’s plan to avoid personal drama flies out the window as she battles her feelings and her better judgment. Love may be within her reach, but she is perplexed by Rene’s odd behavior. Meryt isn’t the only one with secrets and hidden agendas.
When she is called to duty on a secret mission in Sudan, the adventure begins. Old secrets as well as lost ones come to light. Soon Meryt is catapulted down a mysterious path—a bloody path she may have traveled before.
As Meryt is caught in a race against time and unknown enemies, her world is turned upside down when she uncovers parallels between her life and that of ancient Nubian Queen Nitocris, who fought for her homeland and for a man she loved.
If Meryt can’t figure out her true mission and its relationship to ancient Egypt quickly, she will be doomed to relive the same bloody ending.
